Miami Marlins' Luis Arraez Ties Ted Williams in Baseball History in Quest for .400
USA TODAY Sports

Miami Marlins stalwart Luis Arraez went 2-5 on Wednesday as the Marlins lost to the Toronto Blue Jays, 6-3.

The 2-5 effort actually brought his overall batting average down to a cool .398 for the season. He's attempting to become the first player to hit .400 for a season since Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox hit .406 back in 1941.

Arraez actually joined Williams in some very unique baseball history related to the chase for history.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

Luis Arraez' .398 BA through Miami's first 75 games is the best by any player since Tony Fernández hit .405 in Toronto's first 75 games in 1999.

In 1941, when Ted Williams became the last AL/NL player to hit .400 in a season, his BA through Boston's first 75 games was... .398.

Arraez was acquired in a trade from the Minnesota Twins this offseason and has been everything the Marlins could have wanted and more. In addition to his pure statistics, he's a huge part of why the Marlins are 42-33 and holding the top wild card spot in the National League playoff picture right now.

He won a batting title last year in Minnesota and appears well on his way to another this year. His .398 batting average leads second-place Ronald Acuna Jr. by 71 points as Acuna is hitting .327.

The Marlins will be back in action on Thursday night in Miami as they take on the reeling Pittsburgh Pirates. Braxton Garrett goes for Miami against Mitch Keller.

First pitch is 6:40 p.m. ET.
