Connor McDavid’s hilarious reaction to Oilers’ nail-bitting Game 7 win over Canucks

The Oilers went up 3-0 in Game 7 with three goals in the second period by Cody Ceci, Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. It looked as if the Oilers would cruise to a victory against a Canucks team that was just dealt a blow by losing Brock Boeser due to blood clotting issues. Instead, the Canucks scored two goals later in the third period with Conor Garland and Filip Hronek finding the back of the net. That left a few minutes for Vancouver to stage one last push to try to tie the game, but that was unsuccessful.

In Game 6, the Oilers held the Canucks to just 15 shots, and the effort was similarly great defensively, holding them to 17 shots. McDavid spoke on his team’s defensive effort in the two wins.

“I thought we defended well, we played two really good games,” McDavid said, via Sportsnet. “Backs were against the wall, sorry about my voice here. Backs were against the wall. The way we responded, really proud of the group.”

The Oilers got good efforts out of Stuart Skinner in Games 6 and 7 as well after not playing every game in this series. McDavis praised his goalie’s mental toughness.

“You know what, he’s so mentally strong, he always bounces back,” McDavid said, via Sportsnet. “I knew what his impact was gonna be in this series at some point. Wasn’t early but it sure was late.”

It was a hard fought series for the Oilers and McDavid as he pursues his first Stanley Cup. It will not get any easier next round against the Stars.

In these playoffs, McDavid has been very productive. In 12 games, despite scoring just two goals, McDavid has 19 assists for 21 points, according to NHL.com. He is also a +5 when on the ice. For Edmonton to get to the Stanley Cup Final and win it, McDavid will have to continue to produce at that level.

The Stars on paper are the toughest matchup the Oilers have had yet, but Edmonton came into these playoffs as a very popular pick to win it all. Game 1 will take place on Tuesday in Dallas, as the Oilers and McDavid will try to steal one on the road before coming back home for Games 3 and 4.
